In his new book FIXING THE INDIES: Saving Independent Pro Wrestling from Itself (Foxbat Books, January 4, 2012), pro wrestling promoter Norm E. Kaiser lays out a blueprint for transforming independent pro wrestling from an obscure sideshow into a legitimate and profitable entertainment business. According to Kaiser, who has worked both as a pro wrestler and as a wrestling promoter for over 20 years, independent pro wrestling has fallen into a destructive cycle of poor production values, inane repetitiveness, and a complete lack of attention to the essentials of quality sports entertainment. In Fixing the Indies, Kaiser uses clear, pull-no-punches language in defining the problems that vex independent pro wrestling and in detailing exact strategies to break the cycle and start making money in the business.
“The book is a about a transformation,” says Kaiser. “It’s about shattering this negative paradigm that indie pro wrestling has locked itself into so that it can reinvent itself and actually be entertaining and mainstream again.”
Through punchy narrative and hilarious anecdotes, Kaiser challenges the reader to see the forest for the trees and arrive at the difficult realizations of what’s wrong with the independent pro wrestling business and how to make it right. Topics include how to book matches that are engaging and exciting, how to develop characters that fans love or love to hate, how to market a promotion for free (or close to it), how to project a professional business image, how to maximize profits at concession stands, and how to perform the fundamentals properly to make matches look realistic and intense.
Also included is Kaiser’s Ultimate Pro Wrestler’s Training Guide, a complete fitness program designed specifically for professional wrestlers. “Pro wrestlers are athletes…period,” Kaiser says. “They need to be in first class shape. This guide will show them how.”
Fixing the Indies is a step-by-step guide for success in the pro wrestling business. It’s essential reading for anyone involved in it, whether a promoter, booker, wrestler, manager, referee, ring announcer, or just a fan.

Norm E. Kaiser, the promoter for American Championship Freefighting, just finished a book titled “Fixing the Indies.” It is available at www.Amazon.com. The description is as follows:
In high school gymnasiums, VFW halls, and bingo parlors all across the country, young pro wrestlers are risking life and limb to entertain crowds where there are more empty chairs than paying customers. It doesn’t have to be that way. Norm Kaiser’s Fixing the Indies is the definitive, step-by-step blueprint on how to transform independent pro wrestling from a struggling fly-by-night sideshow into a thriving, mainstream cash machine. In this book you’ll learn how to develop your brand, establish a winning identity, tell engaging stories that keep fans coming back for more, make record sales at your concessions stand, and much, much more. Whether you’re a promoter, booker, worker, or even just a fan, this is the single book you can’t afford to miss.
You can buy it here by clicking here for $19.96. It is not currently available for Kindle.

Editor’s Notes
For more than a decade, Bret Hit Man Hart and Shawn Michaels engaged in perhaps the most storied rivalry in the history of sports entertainment, from their teams (the Hart Foundation and the Rockers), through battles for the Intercontinental Championship and the richest prize in the business, the World Wrestling Entertainment Championship. Their enmity spilled out of the ring, and led to the most infamous incident in the history of professional wrestling, The Montreal Screwjob. More than a decade later, the two men buried the hatchet as both are now World Wrestling Entertainment Hall of Famers. Now, for the first time ever, the two sit down together and rehash their intertwined destinies in Shawn Michaels vs. Bret Hart. These new, never-before-aired, interviews will shed new light and insight on issues and controversies fans have speculated about for years.

External Review
First, this DVD release will end up probably being hated by a vast majority of wrestling fans that view it. Why? Because it shatters several myths that wrestling fans have enjoyed discussing for years. Things that fans have believed and thought were real are denounced by both men in the interview. So, if you prefer to hold onto the myths and legends surrounding these two, you may want to actually skip this release. With that said, this is easily one of World Wrestling Entertainment ’s best DVD releases ever. It’s right up there with The Rise and Fall of ECW and for many will surpass it. This set is all about the lengthy sit down interview between the two men. It’s not all about Montreal, and Jim Ross (the host) stresses that both men’s careers weren’t defined by that one night, it’s a discussion on how both men came up in the wrestling business, first as friends, then bitter rivals and how they managed to make peace in the end. You’ll hear both men talk about their tag team careers and what they thought of one another early on. You’ll hear how excited Shawn was to see Bret become champion because he viewed that as Bret paving the way for him to achieve the same goal. You’ll hear Bret discuss how he admired Shawn Michael’s wrestling ability and would go to bat for him several times to Vincent K. McMahon. You’ll also hear how the seeds were planted for their rivalry, which was a work in the beginning, but became legitimate hatred later on. Both men get emotional, numerous times, during this interview. As a fan of both, it’s hard not to get choked up right along with them as they relive the most emotional parts of their careers. They speak from the heart and hold nothing back. I’ve seen every World Wrestling Entertainment DVD documentary released and this one will move you, especially if you’ve followed both men’s entire careers like I have. Many stories and myths about their rivalry and hatred for one another are squashed by both men, which I still believe will upset a lot of fans. I don’t want to spoil anything, so I wont give away the meat of what was discussed in the interview, I’ll just leave it at that. Just know that many of the cool stories and conspiracy theories people, and wrestling journalists have talked about for years, will be proven to be just that… stories and conspiracy theories.
As for the matches, there’s nothing here we haven’t really seen before, with one exception. They included a rare steel cage match from these two that you wont find on any other DVD, so it’s cool to see it here. The infamous Survivor Series match is not included on this DVD set, but instead is an exclusive bonus match on the Blu-ray edition: World Wrestling Entertainment Shawn Michaels vs. Bret Hart: World Wrestling Entertainment ’s Greatest Rivalries 2-Disc Blu-ray.
Needles to say, this is a must buy for any fan of Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels. It’s a tremendous look back on two of the most important careers in wrestling history. Their discussion is an unfiltered look at what made them great and clears the air on the more controversial parts of their legendary careers.

30 year old Florida wrestler “Ryze” died Saturday after falling off a ride at an Orlando amusement park.
A spokesman with Orange County Fire Rescue said Justin Honeycutt was an employee at Magical Midway on International Drive. He was working on the Star Flyers ride while the ride was closed for repairs. He was about 90 feet in the air when he fell about six feet. Rescue crews found Honeycutt unconscious, suspended in the air by a safety harness. Firefighters had to use their own harnesses and cables to climb up, and then slowly lower the man down.
Investigators are not yet sure why the worker fell. Magical Midway is now closed while an investigation is under way.
Star Flyers is billed as “America’s only carousel on steroids.”
Pictures of Ryze from ASW can be seen here: http://www.wrestling911.com/asw/?p=4175
