WWE: Profiling Future Stars, Part 4: FCW Superstar Wes Brisco

Posted on 15 May 2011 by FrontRowFanatics.com Auto Update

Over the next month-and-a-half, I will be profiling Superstars from the World Wrestling Entertainment ’s Developmental territory, Florida Championship Wrestling. This will not include guys who have been on World Wrestling Entertainment television for an extended period of time, with the exception of World Wrestling Entertainment NXT.

These Florida Championship Wrestling Superstars have stood out from the rest of the pack, and many will become future World Wrestling Entertainment Superstars. You may have heard of many, but may not be familiar with others.

Today, I profile Wes Brisco.

Wes Brisco grew up in Tampa, Fla., raised by famous father Jerry Brisco and uncle Jack Brisco. When they wrestled, they were a tag team, known as The Brisco Brothers.

They would win over 20 tag-team championships around the world, in 13 years of teaming up together. And after the team was finished, Jerry would go onto win the Hardcore Championship and was inducted into the World Wrestling Entertainment Hall of Fame in 2008 along with Jack.

Wes would quickly become a very accomplished amateur wrestler, but chose to go with wakeboarding instead. Yes, I said wakeboarding.

What is wakeboarding? Well, you can credit Wikipedia for this one:

“Wakeboarding is a surface water sport which involves riding a wakeboard over the surface of a body of water. It was developed from a combination of water skiing, snow boarding and surfing techniques.”

After traveling all around the world, Wes found himself back in the family business: pro wrestling.

Ironically, his gimmick is one who takes chances and takes on different outdoor adventures or “living on the edge.” Such activities include skydiving, bungee jumping, and spear fishing tiger sharks.

I must admit, I have no clue what “spear fishing tiger sharks” is, but it sounds pretty dangerous.

After signing with World Wrestling Entertainment ’s development territory; Florida Championship Wrestling, he would begin teaming with Xaiver Woods in 2010.

In case you are unaware, Xavier Woods was Consequences Creed in Total Nonstop Wrestling, before being released. And yes, he’ll get a profile in this series too.

The two would become the Florida Championship Wrestling Tag Team Champions, until Wes was injured in December, which forced them to vacate the titles.

And that ladies and gentlemen, is where we sit today.

So how do I see Wes fitting into the World Wrestling Entertainment ?

He could always stay teamed up with Xavier Woods, and dominate the World Wrestling Entertainment ’s tag team division for awhile, upon being called up the main roster.

Or, as a face with solid in-ring work and decent mic skills, he could debut make an immediate impact in the mid-card of Smackdown.

What do you see in Wes Brisco’s future?

Will he tag up with Xavier Woods and perhaps capture the World Wrestling Entertainment Tag Team Championships? Will he go the singles route and take Friday Night SmackDown by storm?

Lastly, maybe you think he doesn’t have the skills to make it in the World Wrestling Entertainment . If so, explain why in the comments section.

So before I go, I have some business to take of.

Myself, Rize, Jesus Rocha, Hamster Fan and John Cavanagh had discussed making a website for quite sometime. Finally, we have done just that.

Not to worry, I will be finishing up this series right here on Bleacher Report. Our brand new website is The Enigmatic Generation Of Wrestling. It is an opinion based wrestling site, that strives on creating quality and quantity in our work. Please, check it out and thanks for reading.

Profiling the WWE’s Future Stars: Part 3- FCW Superstar Richie Steamboat

Posted on 12 May 2011 by FrontRowFanatics.com Auto Update

Over the next month and a half, I will be profiling Superstars from the World Wrestling Entertainment ’s Developmental territory, Florida Championship Wrestling.

Today, I profile the son of World Wrestling Entertainment Hall of Famer Ricky Steamboat: Richie Steamboat.

Richie grew up in Charlotte, North Carolina and was raised by his famous father. Growing up, he would train with George South and Harley Race.

That’s not a bad circle of wrestlers to be taught by.

This would obviously give Steamboat an edge over most wrestlers and make him a second-generation superstar. It also will give him added job support, as father Ricky still works backstage as an agent for the World Wrestling Entertainment .

Richie’s training would help him open doors across the world, as he has competed in Japan, Puerto Rico and England. Over the process, he has picked up four championships, including being one half of the current Florida Championship Wrestling Tag Team Champions, along with Seth Rollins (yes, I will be profiling Rollins soon enough).

After competing across the world, Steamboat would be signed by Florida Championship Wrestling, losing his first match to current World Wrestling Entertainment Superstar Heath Slater (Heath Miller). He’s gone onto wrestle Derrick Bateman, Wade Barrett, Curt Hawkins, Alex Riley and Johnny Curtis. Do those names ring a bell?

After a nice showing against the guys listed above, Steamboat would suffer a knee injury that would sideline him for a number of months. Upon his return, he teamed up with his father (who, before his recent stroke, could still put on some pretty good matches) to defeat The Dudebusters. Yes, those Dudebusters.

After unsuccessfully challenging Mason Ryan for the Florida Championship Wrestling Championship, he would go on to another streak of facing World Wrestling Entertainment Superstars: Jinder Mahal (who debuted on SmackDown), Michael McGillicutty and NXT contestants Byron Saxton and Lucky Cannon.

Now obviously, by the laundry list of now World Wrestling Entertainment Superstars he’s faced, the World Wrestling Entertainment has confidence in Richie. In fact, the only thing that Steamboat hasn’t accomplished thus far is a reign as Florida Championship Wrestling Champion.

In my opinion, they should allow Steamboat a run as Florida Championship Wrestling Champion. The guy has all the in-ring skills (tremendous high flying in-ring work) and could benefit greatly from a championship run. After a strong reign as champion, Steamboat could roll into the World Wrestling Entertainment ’s Friday Night SmackDown and become an upper mid-carder almost immediately.

Another direction the World Wrestling Entertainment could go is to have him and IWC golden boy Seth Rollins (formerly known as Tyler Black in Ring of Honor) stay together and debut as a team. These two could, without a doubt, put on amazing matches that the tag team division currently lacks.

Maybe they could wrestle The Los Aviadores.

That has Percy Watson’s approval!

Okay, okay, I’m finished plugging.

To close, as I’ve illustrated in this article, I believe Richie Steamboat has a bright future in the World Wrestling Entertainment . As a second-generation star and son of one of the most popular wrestlers ever, with amazing in-ring skill himself, Steamboat should make an immediate impact upon his World Wrestling Entertainment debut.

So what do you think should happen with Richie Steamboat? Should he debut in a tag team with current partner Seth Rollins? Or perhaps you think he should go to SmackDown and fill the weak upper mid-card.

Whatever you think of Steamboat, I welcome your feedback.

WWE Roster Cuts: Ted DiBiase’s Brother Brett Released

Posted on 10 May 2011 by FrontRowFanatics.com Auto Update

Florida Championship Wrestling, the developmental promotion for the World Wrestling Entertainment , has made a few talent cuts of its own. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter (via wrestleview.com), one of their first victims was Brett DiBiase.

The younger brother of Ted DiBiase of SmackDown had been wrestling for Florida Championship Wrestling since mid-2008. The 23-year-old is a third generation superstar as he’s the son of the Million Dollar Man Ted DiBiase and the grandson of Iron Mike DiBiase.

During his early time in Florida Championship Wrestling, Brett wrestled the likes of Sheamus, Wade Barrett and Dolph Ziggler. All of whom are major superstars in the World Wrestling Entertainment currently.

DiBiase formed a tag team with Joe Hennig, the son of Mr. Perfect, called the Fortunate Sons during his tenure in Florida Championship Wrestling. In January of 2010, they captured the Florida Tag Team Championship. The pair held the belts for two months after losing it to the Usos.

In April of 2010, DiBiase blew out his knee during a match. The next month he underwent surgery for a torn anterior cruciate ligament.

Never recovering from the injury, the World Wrestling Entertainment took it upon themselves to release DiBiase. His information has been removed from Florida Championship Wrestling’s Web site.

DiBiase was supposed to make his way up to the main roster soon. The original plan was similar to what he was doing in Florida Championship Wrestling as he was supposed to be involved in a faction with Hennig and his brother Ted to also be called the Fortunate Sons. The World Wrestling Entertainment apparently grew impatient with his injury, therefore he was released from the company.

Profiling the WWE’s Future Stars: Part 1- FCW Tag Team The Los Aviadores

Posted on 09 May 2011 by FrontRowFanatics.com Auto Update

Over the next the few months, I will be profiling Superstars from the World Wrestling Entertainment ’s Developmental territory, Florida Championship Wrestling.

So without further ado, why don’t we begin?

Today I begin with the tag team of Hunico and Epico, the Los Aviadores.

Hunico

You maybe familiar with Hunico from his time in AAA, Total Nonstop Wrestling Wrestling and Chikara, under the ring name Incognito. However, I’m not going to go feud by feud with him, because that would be boring and take too much time. What I will do is, talk about his upbringing, in-ring style and how I believe he will transition into the current World Wrestling Entertainment landscape.

Hunico was born in El Paso, Texas with Mexican immigrants as parents and begin wrestling at Burges High School. He’d ironically begin working under the ring name Mistico, which we know is formerly the ring name of Sin Cara. Odd, huh?

Well, Mexican promotion (and at the time the home of Sin Cara) CMLL realized this, and legally took the rights of the Mistico name. That would also be the reason why the World Wrestling Entertainment changed Cara’s in-ring name.

Before I go to off track here, I digress.

Hunico received a tryout match in the World Wrestling Entertainment in late 2009. It was without a mask and under the name Jorge Arias. He would sign a World Wrestling Entertainment   developmental contract shortly thereafter.

He would soon showcase his Lucha Libre style, under his Rey Mysterio-like mask. Don’t worry, the similarities to Mysterio don’t end there.

Hunico’s gimmick is that of an undersized underdog who never gives up. I know, I know, I can hear the collective sigh among the IWC now. But, it caters well to kids.

Hunico’s future spot in the World Wrestling Entertainment could very well be along with fellow masked wrestler and tag team partner Epico.

Epico

Epico has been all over the world, competing in Japan, Puerto Rico and of course, in the United States. He is Carlito and Primo’s cousin, whose real name is Orlando Colon (competed in Florida Championship Wrestling as Tito Colon for a short time.)

Epico, like his tag parter, also dons a mask. This mask also resembles that of Rey Mysterio.

While he could team with Hunico and help revamp the World Wrestling Entertainment ’s tag team division, he could also debut as Tito Colon.

As Tito Colon, Epico could brag about his family’s heritage while possibly teaming up with (and helping the status) of Primo.

Either of these two possibilities could result in Epico being a future World Wrestling Entertainment Tag Team Champion. I believe debuting as Tito Colon is more likely, as the World Wrestling Entertainment wouldn’t want four masked wrestlers.

As far as Hunico, he has more of a history with his mask. He could probably debut in the World Wrestling Entertainment with a mask, especially after Rey Mysterio retires. If given a chance, he could succeed in the World Wrestling Entertainment . If not, Hunico would have to be unmasked and given a chance. Which honestly, seems unlikely to me.

So, what is your opinion on both Hunico and Epico. Should they split up and be unmasked before debuting? Should they stay together as a masked (or unmasked) team? Or do you think they won’t get a shot in the “big leagues” to begin with.

As always, particularly with a new series, I welcome feedback. Let me know if you enjoy this, or if it should be scrapped.

Thanks for reading.

Profiling the WWE’s Future Stars: Part 2- FCW Superstar Percy Watson

Posted on 08 May 2011 by FrontRowFanatics.com Auto Update

Over the next month and a half, I will be profiling Superstars from the World Wrestling Entertainment ’s Developmental territory, Florida Championship Wrestling.

You may have heard of many but may not be familiar with others. Thursday night, I began the series with Florida Championship Wrestling tag team The Los Aviadores. To read that, click here.

For today, I will be profiling a man we have seen on World Wrestling Entertainment NXT, Percy Watson.

Percy Watson (real name Nick McNeil) graduated from Western Carolina University. He was a three-time all-conference football player.

As a sophomore, he led his team with 10 sacks. Then the following year, he led the entire conference in fumble recoveries. And lastly, he finished his college career by finishing fourth all-time in tackles-for-loss in WCU history. Now I’m guessing you’re asking me why he didn’t play in the NFL, right?

Well, he did. He was signed by the Pittsburgh Steelers, before bouncing around with numerous other teams. However, McNeil would soon find himself out of the league, like many other small-college, undrafted rookies do.

After disappearing from the spotlight for a while , McNeil would sign with World Wrestling Entertainment developmental territory Florida Championship Wrestling.

Several gimmick changes later, McNeil would find himself with a new ring name, Percy Watson. Watson would join fellow former NXT rookie Darren Young and form a tag team known as the “South Beach Party Boys.”

Isn’t it funny that Florida Championship Wrestling has better teams than the World Wrestling Entertainment ? However, I digress.

Watson would soon find himself at a loss of a tag-team partner, when Darren Young joined the Season 1 cast of NXT. But not to worry, Watson would be on the next season of this odd mix of scripted and reality television.

Under the same gimmick, Watson would immediately connect with the fans. He was a fun-loving guy, who had an easy-to-remember catchphrase: Oh yeah!

Watson would also prove he wasn’t half-bad in the ring, especially considering he’d only been wrestling since 2009.

His World Wrestling Entertainment pro was MVP, who displayed his scruffy-vet type gimmick and had good chemistry with Watson.

Despite this, Watson finished fifth on NXT and would be called back to Florida Championship Wrestling.

Now, what does the future hold for Percy Watson?

He has proven he can get over with the crowd, even if just with a small audience on World Wrestling Entertainment NXT. And with the roster cuts coming, Watson could be one to fill a mid-card role when called up.

He could reform the “South Beach Party Boys” with Darren Young, who is back on World Wrestling Entertainment NXT Season 5 (redemption), battling for a spot on Season 6..

Speaking of tag teams, it isn’t out of the question that MVP could return to the World Wrestling Entertainment sometime soon. MVP is said to be on good terms with World Wrestling Entertainment and has hinted at a return after his stint in Japan is over.

If this were to happen, Watson could team up with MVP or even have a nice feud with him. Either way, the two have chemistry that if in the same place at the same time again, should be capitalized on.

If going the singles route, Watson could easily be placed on Smackdown and be placed in the Intercontinental Championship picture, as Smackdown could be low on faces.

We have seen similar gimmicks work. Just look at Kofi Kingston, who is also a fun-loving face. Now that is really where the similarities between the two end, but you get my point. Gimmicks like Watson’s have worked before.

So, enough of me. What do you think of Watson? Do you like the idea of him reforming a team with Darren Young? Or if he returns, could a program with MVP suit Watson well?

Perhaps you like the idea of Watson going the singles route on Friday Night Smackdown. Or possibly you don’t like Watson at all and think he should never reach the “big leagues.”

Bret DiBiase's World Wrestling Entertainment Release Confirmed, Gail Kim's EngagementPartial Source: PWInsider.com

– It was reported Monday that World Wrestling Entertainment developmental wrestler Brett DiBiase, 23, was removed from the roster page of the Florida Championship Wrestling. It has since been confirmed that the third generation wrestler was released from his contract with World Wrestling Entertainment .

– World Wrestling Entertainment referee Chad Patton turns 35 years old today while Hall of Famer Bill Watts turns 72.

– We noted earlier here on the website that Robert Irvine, 45, a personality on The Food Network announced on Tuesday on the Preston and Steve morning show in Philadelphia that he is engaged to Gail Kim, 34.

This was first reported by Tammy “Sunny” Sytch, who was on hand for WrestleMania XXVII. Kim never denied the story, but was angry about getting it out, indicating she wanted to keep her personal life private. Since then, they were noted as a couple in an article in the Orlando Sentinel in an article about him being in town. Irvine attended the World Wrestling Entertainment Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony as Kim’s date.

Brett DiBiase Not Released From WWE + Moxley Debuts

Posted on 06 May 2011 by FrontRowFanatics.com Auto Update

Brett DiBiase Not Released From World Wrestling Entertainment + Moxley DebutsEarlier reports of developmental wrestler Brett DiBiase being released from his World Wrestling Entertainment developmental contract are erroneous as he worked two matches as a referee at this evening’s Florida Championship Wrestling live event in Tampa, Florida.

It was reported earlier this week that his profile was removed from the Florida Championship Wrestling website, which is often an indication that a talent has been released. Furthermore, several sources noted that the third generation wrestler was let go. We apologize for the earlier error.

Meanwhile, new signee Jon Moxley made his Florida Championship Wrestling debut tonight under his real name, Jonathan Good. He participated in a battle royal and lasted through most of it before being eliminated by Erick Rowan.

WWE Diva Injured At SmackDown Tapings, Two Releases From FCW

Posted on 05 May 2011 by FrontRowFanatics.com Auto Update

World Wrestling Entertainment Diva Alicia Fox (Christina Crawford) suffered a shoulder injury following her match at the SmackDown tapings. It remains to be seen whether it is a separation or just a dislocation at this point, but she was involved in an angle that may have cost it. The full spoilers for SmackDown are now up on the homepage.

Jackson Andrews (Steve Slocum) and Brett DiBiase, who is the brother of current World Wrestling Entertainment Superstar Ted DiBiase Jr., were both removed from World Wrestling Entertainment ’s Florida Championship Wrestling website. The Wrestling Observer Newsletter has confirmed that DiBiase was released. DiBiase, who is 23, was scheduled to be brought up to the main roster until he blew out his knee. The original plan was to form a faction involving Brett, his brother Ted and Joe Hennig (Michael McGillicutty) called The Fortuante Sons, but was dropped before he could return to action.

Report: Brett DiBiase Released From WWE?

Posted on 04 May 2011 by FrontRowFanatics.com Auto Update

Report: Brett DiBiase Released From World Wrestling Entertainment ?World Wrestling Entertainment developmental wrestler Brett DiBiase has been removed from Florida Championship Wrestling’s roster page, which would indicate that he has been released. We can’t confirm or deny that just yet though but it appears likely.

The third generation wrestler had been under contract to World Wrestling Entertainment since 2008.

Meanwhile, Briley Pierce and Rodney Thomas were added to the section. Pierce is Dolph Ziggler’s younger brother, Ryan Nemeth. Thomas is a student from Lance Storm’s Wrestling Academy who has competed as “Shotgun” Brock Barker.

Also for those asking about the upcoming World Wrestling Entertainment releases, we usually see Florida Championship Wrestling releases first followed by main roster cuts. World Wrestling Entertainment sources say roster cuts could be coming at any moment.

Posted on 02 May 2011 by FrontRowFanatics.com Auto Update

– The two-hour documentary portion of World Wrestling Entertainment RAW: The Best of 2010 DVD begins airing on pay-per-view on June 6.

Johnny Curtis has been largely competing in Florida Championship Wrestling since winning the fourth season of NXT on March 1. He lost to Husky Harris at last Thursday’s Florida Championship Wrestling taping.

World Wrestling Entertainment has signed Jesse White, son of three-time World Championship Wrestling World Heavyweight Champion Big Van Vader, to a developmental contract. It was speculated in recent weeks that White, who has competed in Japan, would be signed following a tryout at the organization’s developmental facility in Tampa, Florida.
