The Tens – Ten Thoughts About the Rankings

Posted on 20 March 2011 by SnowMan Jones

Every month MarcusPitt.com publishes their rankings of the top workers in the state of Florida. This month the Pitt will provide the top 100 workers, as ranked by 25 wrestling insiders, promoters, and workers. Here are ten of my comments and questions for before the lists come out.

10) Will Kennedy Kendrick get overseen again in the top 100?
9) Considering the recent attention on Joey Saint, will he rank in the top 20 this month?
8) It will be interesting to see if Marcus decides to let guys like Jon Davis, Kory Chavis, Craig Classic, and the Sheik compete in the Florida list, since they are national names.
7) Will Biff Slater jump up the list after becoming the ASW Champion?
6) Will Kyle Blizzard jump up the rankings after recent pushes in ASW and Vintage?
5) Will FUW finally get some recognition in the listings, despite their lack of results online?
4) It is pretty amazing that we live in an era where we can do rankings like this, with input from all over the state. 20 years ago results weren’t so easily available, scores of calls would have been made, and letters would have been sent. It would be nearly impossible.
3) I always amazes me to see what quality names don’t make people’s lists. I guess that’s why I would like to see a full list of all the people who received votes.
2) Maximum Capacity. I hope he gets to vote, and I would love to see his list. He always has insight.
1) Who will be #1? I can think of about five or six guys who would qualify.

The Tens – All Stars Wrestling 2/4/2010

Posted on 05 February 2011 by SnowMan Jones

I had the great opportunity to watch ASW at Strokers. Full Throttle Friday is the topic of this edition of the Tens. ASW is a fledgling promotion in Central Florida, quickly growing into one of the best promotions in the state.

10) The American Nightmare John Allen returned to the ring tonight. This old school vet brought a lot more to the table than I expected. If you are a indy wrestler, watch this guys match when it comes out on www.ASWFlorida.com. He put on a clinic of how to interact with the fans. His plotting attack on Teigan James was impressive.

9) Maxwell Chicago’s new look is hilarious. I believe he’s now known as Henry Maxwell, and this guy has a spandex tuxedo.  Frankly, he’s in the best shape of his career, his gimmick is getting more impressive, and he has something very unique about that he brings to the table.

8 ) Camey Kendrick looks like she is enjoying what she is doing in the ring.  She hadn’t been a manager for very long, but she’s really performing the “bitch” part, and she really reminds me of a Sensational Sherri type of manager.  She’s really improved as a manager over the past year.

7) Bobby Fonta continues to be in better physical shape every week.  It is good to see him working hard to be the wrestling performer that he wants to be.

6) ASW has done a great job building a legitimate tag team division.  With the Highwaymen, Latin Assassins, FXE’s Slater/Maximo, the NuYoricans, and others, this division deserves some recognition.  Vince, Nick, and the bookers, deserve credit for giving this division the opportunity to shine.

5) Simon Sez is more dedicate to wrestling than anyone I know.  He bleeds wrestling, and it shows.  I don’t know if everyone understands how crucial he is to that promotion.

4) There is a core group of people who love and respect Nick Major, because he is genuinely a good person.  He is a very underrated portion of that promotion.

3) The Starlettes division will be interesting to see.  Vince got his first “real” match in last night with Ferrari and Jelena.  It was good.  He has a lot of dedication, but it will be hard to find enough women to wrestle.  If anyone can pull it off, Vince can.

2) Jimmy Mack is an amazing referee.  He looks like a “fed” ref, and he makes a promotion look so much better by being in the ring.

1) ASW has a lot going on in the next 30 days.  Jay Lethal, Miki, Jesse Neal, Traci Brooks, Socal Val, etc… Make sure to check it out!

The Tens – NFW Pulse (1-28-2011)

Posted on 29 January 2011 by SnowMan Jones

Here are our 10 comments about NFW Pulse from last night.

10- Anyone who complains about the “look” of NFW talent have no room to complain with the opening match of Nick Primo and Jimmy Whiplash.
9- The promos seem to be getting more creative every week.
8- The network executive gimmick reminds me of ECW’s TNN executive gimmick.
7- Maxwell and EJ did commentary as a duo.  It is the first time I heard that.
6- Matt Stone Vs Bryce Andrews was the second match.  They also have the look of traditional wrestlers.
5- NFW talent in general looks a lot more polished now than they did a year ago, and that’s mostly because their guys are gaining experience.
4- I think it helps when guys like 1st Degree and Tiegan James gain experience in ASW and FUW.  It also helps them gian exposure.  In two years, many NFW youngsters will be all over the Florida map.
3- I like Robert Dills as a referee.
2- It would appear that NFW may have added GQ Fashion as a sponsor.  Not sure though, as that may be a post-show commercial.
1- Kudos to the NFW crew for sticking it out on television.

The Tens – New Florida Wrestling

Posted on 23 January 2011 by SnowMan Jones

Our “The Tens” columns discuss ten aspects of wrestling. This one is about a indy professional wrestling show called “New Florida Wrestling – Pulse.”

10. NFW is a small professional wrestling company out of Plant City Florida, and they are known for their school.
9. The commercials are entertaining, and they usually star local wrestling talent.
8. Their top talent is Nick Primo, son of World Championship Wrestling star Prince Iaukea. Iaukea is also on the roster.
7. They caught a lot of “heat” in the local wrestling community for a flaming table incident that included their promoter EJ.
6. Their top heels are the Misled Youth, which includes Jude Mackenzie, Josh Rayne, and Josh Masters.
5. Current heavyweight champion is Matt Stone.
4. Sponsors include Jarrett Ford, H.Charles Locksmith and Liberty Tax.
3. MarcusPitt.com did photography during their historic cage match between Jude Mackenzie and Nick Primo.
2. television tapings are every other Saturday night in Plant city, and their website is www.nfwpulse.com.
1. Jude Mackenzie is a major player behind the scenes, doing graphics, editing, and assisting with production.

The Tens – Our Comments on NFW Pulse (by SnowMan Jones)

Posted on 15 January 2011 by SnowMan Jones

Ten comments on NFW Pulse comments, based on their show that aired this friday on Mytelevision WTTA.

10) Again, NFW’s intro video looked very good.
9) It was nice to Nick Primo in NFW. He’s clearly one of your top wrestlers.
8 ) O’Brady Vs D-Lo Jordan was the first match. D-Lo is very athletic. He might consider wearing a color other than black… so it shows better on screen.
7) Hooligan has a nice moonsault.
6) D-Lo’s 450 Splash is amazing.
5) The locksmith commercial is HILARIOUS! (The Virus are breaking into a building, but can’t get in because of the bad ass locksmith.)
4) Jude Mackenzie has put on some good weight over the past 3 years.
3) I would love to see you get one or two more “big stars” per episode. If you can afford it, a few more names could help build the brand.
2) The television product is looking better every week.
1) How does EJ not lose his voice?

The Tens – Unsung heroes of Florida Independent Wrestling

Posted on 11 January 2011 by SnowMan Jones

Below is a list of ten “Unsung heroes of Florida Independent Wrestling.”  They are in no particular order, and I could have added more…

10- Dan Kriegbaum.  He referees more matches than almost anyone in the state.  You have to give him credit for what he has accomplished.
9- Cookie.  Part of ASW’s ring crew, she is more than willing to take down a ring or announce an event.
8- Jimmy Mack.  Referee, advisor, and friend to many.  He’s probably the most under rated asset in Florida wrestling.
7- Sean LaFlash.  Without a doubt he is one of the best sounding ring announcers in Florida.
6- Curt Diamond.  The guy is a real pro, and few people can top him when it comes to professionalism.
5- B.Smoove.  He’s a ring announcer and a photographer.  If you Google Florida wrestling images, you will find his work and not even know it.
4- Marcus Pitt.  He founded this site, he is part of Vintage’s street team, and he runs Florida Wrestling Radio with Sean Solo and Billy Wood.
3- The Gargoyle.  He’s riles up the crowd, he pays his money, and he is the type of fan that wrestlers love to hear from.  He’s an all around great guy.
2- Orlando.  A top photographer in the state, Orlando is the shutterbug you want taking pictures when you are wrestling.
1- Jason D.  He’s taken to videography, but he has done a lot to help indy wrestling.

The Tens – Comments on FCW

Posted on 07 January 2011 by SnowMan Jones

Here are my top comments from Florida Championship Wrestling last night.

10 – AJ Lee is getting much leaner than when she was new at Florida Championship Wrestling.
9 – Lucky Cannon is developing a unique gimmick.  It is nice to see him hone his craft at Florida Championship Wrestling.
8 – Mason Ryan looks so muscular that his heart must be strained.  However, he has the LOOK that will make him a World Wrestling Entertainment star.
7 – Tito Colon looks and works much like Primo.
6 – Naomi has lost a lot of weight since her Florida Championship Wrestling debut.
5 – The house was packed, which is good for the Keirns.
4 – The Aksana show was still kind of rough, but she is doing better than I would if I had to present to a Lithuanian audience.
3 – Big E Langston Vs Michael Tarver seemed like a World Wrestling Entertainment quality match.
2 – Rob Zapata always seems angry.  Is he supposed to?
1 – MVP watched along from the audience, and Normal Smiley watched behind the cameras.
